Anita Reynolds is a textile artist based in Ballivor, Co. Meath. She qualified with an honours degree in textile design from Ncad in 1992 and a diploma in art teaching in 1993. She is working as an art teacher in Navan for the past twenty years while continuing to take on commissions like the three panelled silk wall hanging in Kilmainhamwood church and painting a cow for cow parade in 2002 as well as selling her work locally. Last year 2014 Anita had a watercolour and a textile piece chosen for the annual Surveyor exhibition of Meath artists in the Solstice arts centre. These were chosen by R.H.A. external adjudicators. Full time teaching and raising three children has left little time for her own work so this year she has decided to work part time and concentrate on developing her own work from her studio in Ballivor. Anita is inspired by the beautiful natural world outside her door. The meadows, fields, bogs, woodlands and canal walks near her home provide an abundance of inspiration. The changing colours of the seasons and the textures of the trees are interpreted by her using threads, dyes, twigs and beads. She starts with a photograph and a drawing to create a one off piece in fabric which usually incorporates many techniques including batik, hand painting, beading, quilting and stitching by hand and machine. Her framed fabric pieces create a miniature world of colour and texture inspired by her response to nature.
